Bank of Italy's Milano Hub to Back Research into Decentralized Finance Security Token Ecosystem

Bank of Italy’s Milano Innovation Hub Takes on New Project

The Milano Hub, Bank of Italy’s innovation center, is set to back a project conceived by Cetif Advisory. The project aims to delve into a security token ecosystem tailored for decentralized finance (DeFi) among institutional entities.

The new venture primarily focuses on enlarging the scope of security token analysis on secondary markets. These tokens, simply put, serve as digital proxies denoting ownership of tangible assets. As declared by Imanuel Baharier, Cetif Advisory's general manager, the project is devoid of any commercialization agenda.

Aims of the Project

This initiative is targeted at enabling institutional market activists to function in a DeFi space within the constraints of regulatory mandates. The project will enhance Cetif Advisory’s characterized Lionity platform, regarded as an institutional-grade automated market maker.

Cetif Advisory is a subsidiary of the Cetif Research Centre, stationed at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. A number of other organizations, including Polygon Labs, Fireblocks, Italian banks, asset management firms, and another ten financial institutions, have partnered in this project.

Support from Milano Hub

The Cetif Advisory venture received approval during the second call for proposals hosted by the hub. Out of seven approved projects in the fintech category, this one made the cut. The Milano Hub will provide support to the project for half a year, starting from this month. The support will be in the guise of expert consultation and detailed regulatory research.

Future of Securities Tokenization

Securities tokenization is an advancing area in blockchain technology. Forecast from Citi Global Perspectives & Solutions indicates that by 2030, the market for tokenized securities might be valued between $4 and $5 trillion dollars. They also projected that private equity and venture capital would see the highest levels of tokenization, with real estate following in the close second.
